Diana Ross was fabulous, and she knew it. I love her style because her looks were always so dramatic. Feathers, rhinestones, and bold prints were staples for her. I admire the fact that she didn’t care if her outfits were normal. She wore what she loved, and she always looked fabulous.

Anna Wintour

If Diana Vreeland was the empress of fashion, Anna Wintour is her successorOne of the most influential fashion editors of all time, Ms. Wintour revolutionized VOGUE magazine as editor-in-chief. She has a say in every part of the industry, as documented in the film “The September Issue.” Always a champion of fur, Ms. Wintour has been the center of controversy but remains true to her love of bold, statement-making fur. When it comes to her personal style, however, Ms. Wintour seems to stick to a daytime uniform  of a printed shift dress or classic Chanel-style suit. She includes color and print, while sticking to a classic silhouette.  Try working a fun color or bold print into your wardrobe routine this week.

Rachel Zoe... I want this whole outfit! LOVE!!

Rachel Zoe RS13 1199 2

Rachel Zoe is yet another incredible example of a hard-working, successful, and stylish mum. She knows what looks good and has a distinct ‘more is more’ style. She is rarely seen without her big sunglasses and gobs of fabulous jewelry. Since Ms. Zoe is so busy, she has evolved a system that works for her. Well fitted flared pants and maxi-dresses are staples, and black and gold seems to be her go-to color combo. Look to Rachel as an example of how the right jewelry can elevate an outfit.

Bergdorf Goodman Celebrates 111 Years - Iris Apfel

Iris Apfel | Into The Gloss

Iris Apfel

Iris Apfel is incredible. At 90 years old, she is one of the most fun, flamboyant figures in style history and deeply revered by many as a true icon. Her trademark can be broken down into a few signature pieces: huge black eyeglasses, layered statement necklaces, and an armful of colorful bangles. I really admire Iris’s ability to mix unique and/or ethnic pieces into her everyday wardrobe. She embraces color and texture, and mixes them artfully and boldly together. Try channeling Ms. Apfel by throwing on an armful (or two) of your biggest, brightest, boldest bracelets. Think outside the box! After all, you only live once, and only the fabulous can live like Iris Apfel.

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe was a chameleon. During the day, she was casual in sweaters and day-dresses. Then, at night, she would emerge from her shell as a glamorous, glittering bombshell. She adorned herself with sparkling, body-conscious gowns, lush furs, and big gems. Sometimes we only see Marilyn as that over-the-top persona, but I am more intrigued by the simple pictures. I think she is more interesting with minimal makeup (2nd picture), or when she is truly smiling (3rd and 7th pictures). People loved MM because of her confidence. She loved herself, and others loved her for it. Draw inspiration from Marilyn by rocking red lips and big lashes to your next big event. (Just be sure not to try her curls in the same night. You don’t want to look like you are going to a costume party.)

What everyone loves about Sophia Loren, I think, is that she was so unabashedly herShe was shamelessly sexy and embraced glitz and glamour. She wore it all: prints, bold color, tight dresses, feathers, low backs, big jewels, and turbans. The last picture is probably my favorite. Sophia had such incredible bone structure that she could pull off a turban, but she made it even more dramatic with fringed fabric and statement earrings. You can’t help but love her, or at least respect her. She had the rare ability to take a risk and make it her own.
